Your data stays on your device.

This applies to your locally edited work files. Website visits, DistroKid and external content are explained separately below.

All four tools

Your work files stay with you

SRT Sync, Lyrics Studio, Overlap Studio and Video Studio do not send media or projects opened for editing to Palkas Universe. The browser studios process them on your device in the browser; Video Studio processes them locally as a Windows application.

This differs from visiting a website: delivering our websites requires technical connection data. DistroKid, external content and links you open can also connect to other providers. Those cases are described separately below.

The reviewed tool versions contain no analytics or advertising tracking of their own and no cloud upload for work files. Sharing projects, exports or backups, or saving them to a cloud folder, is your choice and may involve that provider’s terms.

Browser extension

SRT Sync

The extension locally reads your selected SRT file, including its name, lyrics and timestamps. On permitted DistroKid pages it needs visible lyrics, player state, timing and controls for inserting and synchronizing text. An optional audio file is used for local verification.

Work state, language, offsets and technical version information are stored in local extension storage. “Clear”, deleting extension data or uninstalling removes this local work data. Downloaded files remain. The clipboard is written only when you click to copy; it is not read.

Saving on DistroKid sends your content to DistroKid. The extension detects the response to that save. If you then click the SRT download at the bottom right, it requests the saved SRT directly from DistroKid in your existing session and downloads it to your device. The download identifier is held temporarily in the open page and is not sent to Palkas Universe.

SRT Sync is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by DistroKid. The extension does not make a final save or publication without your control and receives no payment data. DistroKid is responsible for its own processing under its privacy policy. The extension’s permission covers DistroKid pages, not arbitrary websites. The store term “website content” describes technical page access, not a transfer to us.

Why the store mentions “website content”

The standardized description may mention text, images, audio, video or links. The features recognize lyrics, player and save operations on DistroKid. Palkas Universe does not collect those contents.

No lyrics, timestamps or verification audio are sent to the developer. Normal DistroKid connections and the SRT download you request are separate from that local processing.

How to verify network activity yourself

Developer tools show all traffic in the open tab, including the visited platform’s connections. Exported logs can contain personal URLs, headers or session information. Review them locally and never share them without redaction.

  1. Open SRT Sync on DistroKid or a browser studio, then open developer tools with F12.
  2. Select “Network”, clear the list and keep recording enabled.
  3. Open a supported work file and perform your editing steps. Inspect the “Domain” column: opening the local file does not upload it to Palkas Universe.
  4. Addresses starting with “blob:” or “data:” are local browser objects, not uploads. Saving on DistroKid and downloading its saved SRT can communicate directly with DistroKid.

Browser · local editing

Lyrics Studio

The studio processes lyrics and subtitle files (such as SRT, VTT, LRC and TXT), audio for synchronization and images, videos and fonts you choose. Work state includes file names, text, timestamps, positioning, styling and technical information used to recognize the associated audio file.

Locally saved work and display settings are held in your browser’s website storage. Importing original media does not upload it. Temporary browser URLs refer to local file objects. Downloaded project files may contain media and fonts you selected; a free WebVTT export may embed custom fonts.

“Clear project” removes work state, not previously saved files or every display preference. Delete all website storage through browser settings. Unsaved file objects are released when closing or reloading. Preview images are limited to 100 MB and resized locally to no more than 1920 × 1080 pixels. This protects against excessive memory use, frozen tabs and crashes; it is not an upload limit. The original remains unchanged.

Browser · multiple tracks

Overlap Studio

Overlap locally processes cues, text, timestamps, vocal types, tracks, positioning, styling and selected preview and audio files. Current text and track state is saved locally in the browser so it can be restored when reopened.

Display preferences are also stored locally. Audio you choose to embed becomes part of the downloaded project. Clearing the project does not delete previously downloaded projects or exports. Remove all saved website data through your browser.

Windows · preview & export

Video Studio

Video Studio reads the videos, audio, images, lyrics, subtitles and fonts you select locally. Local media tools inspect, preview and export them. These files are not uploaded to Palkas Universe.

Live Capture records only when explicitly armed and started with Play. From beta 0.4.0, multiple displays, regions, approved window and application groups, cameras, microphones and system audio sources can be selected independently. Display and region recordings include visible content and notifications. Approved application groups can automatically switch the recorded window between a client and a game. System audio captures the chosen Windows output device, including other applications and Studio playback; it is not limited to the captured window or region. One selected microphone automatically follows the Windows default microphone; one selected system audio source follows the default output. Multiple sources of the same type retain their chosen devices. Microphone and system audio are stored separately. Explicitly started audio tests open the selected audio devices for local level metering; a test tone is played through the output device. Querying supported camera formats may briefly activate the selected device. Originals remain in session subfolders inside your chosen recording folder; smaller working copies are stored in the local preview cache. Recordings are not uploaded and remain even if no project file is saved. The last source selection, device identifiers, capture numbers and file references are stored locally. Removing a recording cue lets you keep its original or explicitly delete it permanently; other uses are taken into account.

The installed version can check video.palkasuniverse.de or .com for updates at startup and on request. Startup checks can be disabled in the menu. Our VPS receives the IP address and technical request information, including app version, app identifier, operating system and processor architecture. Projects, media, filenames and local project paths are not transmitted. New application packages are downloaded only when you choose and cached locally until installation.

When you choose to use the sound and font library, the app retrieves catalogs, audio samples, license information and selected files from video.palkasuniverse.de or .com. Our VPS processes the connection data needed to serve these requests. Searches are filtered locally and search terms are not transmitted. Downloaded sounds and fonts remain in the local application folder for offline use; fonts are not installed system-wide. Temporary audio samples are removed after use.

Projects contain file names and original paths, media properties, timestamps, track order, levels, styling and optional editing history. Packages may include selected original media and fonts. History may retain earlier text and media references. Review a project’s contents before sharing it.

Language, render and preview preferences and last-used folders are stored in the local application folder. From beta 0.3.0 this also includes custom shortcuts and your selected recording configuration; capture mode remains off after restarting the app. This folder also holds media extracted from project packages, imported font copies, generated custom text and temporary video and audio preview copies. Use “Temporary preview files” to delete preview copies; they are recreated when needed.

Resetting a project does not delete originals, saved exports or all application data. Preferences and other working copies remain in the Windows application folder until removed. Only remove font or text files when projects no longer depend on them. Uninstalling is not a promise that your project folders will be deleted.

Website visits

Websites, hosting and external content

Our websites run on a VPS hosted by STRATO. Serving a request requires processing at least an IP address and the request; depending on the request this includes time, URL, browser information and a supplied referring page. The purpose is delivery and security under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest is operating a working, secure service.

Our websites’ Caddy configuration does not enable a separate access log of individual page requests. Technical operational and error messages may appear in server logs. Their retention depends on storage and rotation settings and the needs of troubleshooting and security. This does not establish a fixed number of days for all server data or for processing by the hosting provider.

The main website loads YouTube thumbnails and a YouTube player from Google. Loading them may already transmit your IP address, browser information and the visited page to Google. The player’s privacy-enhanced mode does not prevent every connection. Google’s privacy policy governs further processing; processing outside the EU is possible.

The main website obtains video information and the SRT Sync information page obtains store-version information through our server. The server queries Google without sending your local work files. Store, YouTube, PayPal and other external links open their services when clicked. Those providers process data under their own rules. Merely displaying an ordinary link does not make that connection.

The websites contain no advertising or analytics tracking of their own. Necessary local storage supports explicitly requested features such as project saving and preferences (section 25(2)(2) TDDDG). Acknowledging this notice is not consent to advertising or tracking.
